East Coast Trail (Part 4): The Spout: A favourite hike

The Spout Path is the East Coast Trail’s most iconic hike. The Spout, a fresh water geyser, is what draws most people to this trail, and it’s a pretty neat phenomenon. The Spout, however, is only one of the features of the Spout Path that has made it one of my all-time-favourite hikes. I warn you, though, it’s long at about 23km when you do it end-to-end including a 6.3km slog along a rocky ATV access road, and it lives up to its rating as being “strenuous” as it is rocky, has lots of roots and ups and downs. But don’t be put off. The views along the coast, tree-topped stacks, lighthouse and heath result in a superb way to spend about eight hours!
It was my final hike of the East Coast Trail. I didn’t complete the paths in the correct order and somehow I missed this one. But I just had to do it so I tacked it on the end. I’m so glad I did, even though it’s the 13th trail along the ECT and I walked it on August 13th, which made me a bit nervous. There were no mishaps, only a big smile on my face.
I decided to present the hike to you as a simple series of photos from start to end. It’s the last post in my series of blogs about the ECT. I hope you enjoy it.
