About Me

When I was a teenager, my father advised me to not get too involved in sport (I was a competitive equestrian) because there was no way to make a living at it.

Dad was right about a lot of things, but he didn’t foresee the opportunities available to people like his daughter who love to be active out-of-doors. He would never have imagined I’d become a “professional hiker” and full-time writer focussed on nature, travel, paddling, riding, skiing, cycling and, of course, hiking.

It would have been more of a stretch for him to believe I could specialize in finding multi-day journeys that allowed me to travel without a heavy backpack by walking, cycling, paddling or riding to overnight accommodations where a comfortable bed, hearty meal and a glass of wine await my arrival.

My restless soul can’t wait to be on the trail exploring. My left brain loves writing about these experiences. And, more recently, my right brain is adjusting to illustrating these experiences as well.

I invite you to visit my collection of blog posts about adventure travel, sometimes about my own, sometimes about others and sometimes about authors who have written their own books. In these pages are great resources especially for adventure travellers like me who don’t care to carry a heavy backpack. You will also find information about my books and freelance writing.

I hope you enjoy what you read. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about these journeys. Meanwhile, I encourage you to pursue what the great outdoors has to offer and to do everything in your power to stand up and the natural world. After all, good planets are hard to find.
